Making the most of using the internet to sell your car
20/12/2007
The internet holds many useful resources that you can use to boost your chances of selling your car, however in order to get the most out of using the internet to sell your car you have to do a little preparation. The majority of factors that you have to take into account are only common sense and you should ask yourself if you would buy your car if you were the buyer.
Going with a reputable specialist motoring website should be your first consideration; a specialist will be able to offer free hints, tips and advice when it comes to getting the most out of using the internet to sell your car. They will also give you many tools which you can use to your advantage and will make advertising your car easy and quick.
The very first tool you should use to your advantage is the search facility; you should use this to do a little research on the same make and model of car that you are selling. By searching for a car of the same age as yours you will get a great idea as to how much you should ask for the car, of course you will have to take into account whether or not your car is in better condition than the one you are researching, but at least it will give you some indication.
The next step is to prepare your car, cleaning and polishing it is a must as is having the interior cleaned. Once you have done this you should stand back and ask yourself if you would consider buying the car. If the answer is ‘yes’, then now is the time to take good clear photographs to put up alongside the wording of the advert, depending on the size of the website you may be able to include photos of the front, side, back and interior. If ‘no’ then look at ways that you can spruce your car up so that it looks great.
You will need to include the essential information such as the exact model, make and age along with any extras that show the car off and make it stand out above similar models. If you have added any extra security features then boast about these but it is essential that while you make the car sound good you do not go overboard and are truthful also about any faults it has.
It is also essential when using the internet to sell your car that you are aware that not everyone is who they say they are and thieves can pose as potential buyers. While the individual will of course want to take a test drive it is only common sense to go with them and also remember not leave the keys in the ignition at anytime they are looking over the car. It is also worthwhile remembering not to give them any papers relating to ownership of the car before you have cash in hand and if the individual wants to pay by cheque then do not let them have the car until this has cleared with the bank.
