August Horch, the founder of Audi cars, unveiled his first vehicle well over a hundred years ago. He had previously gained the experience necessary to do this whilst working for a certain Herr Benz, whose name you may find familiar. Thus we see how deeply interwoven are the strands of the German car manufacturers. In 1910 the first Audi cars rolled off the production lines and quickly became known for their technical innovations. Although the company has changed owners and transmuted many times, this reputation for engineering excellence remains today and is emphasized in their strap line “Vorsprung Durch Technik”.

On the race track, Audi cars are also a major force. Their LeMans-dominating R8 model is undefeated in the Sebring 12 hours race, and has finished first AND second each time, since the year 2000, this year finishing 20 laps ahead of the nearest competition. This racing pedigree also improves the standard production models, since the R8’s FSI direct-fuel-injection technology has made its way to Audi road cars such as the A2 and A4, helping make them much more fuel-efficient.

All Audi cars are completely galvanised to prevent corrosion, and no other manufacturer has applied this process to their entire range of cars.
