Electric Audi "R8" ETron

Electric Audi "R8" ETron

29/12/2009

Audi have given us a brief glimpse of what to expect in the near future as they unveil the new Audi ETron which is an R8 lookalike at first glance. The car is due to go into production we have been informed in 2012.

An exclusive production run of 1,000 vehicles will be produced and ready for sale at the end of 2012. The new and ALL electric Audi ETron will cost more than the R8 sports car model and will carry a OTR price tag of nearly £120,000.

The stats are pretty impressive for an electric car but are no match in terms of speed compared with the R8. The sprint from 0-60 MPH is achieved in 4.8 seconds and 40 MPH to 75 MPH takes 4.1 seconds. Top speed is believed to be in the region of 124 MPH and the Audi E-Tron has a total power output of 313 BHP. Not huge but you can't get over 120 MPH nowadays anyway unless you're whizzing round a race track.

The Audi ETron is only a small car and measures 4.26m long and 1.9m wide, this makes the e-tron shorter but wider than a Porsche Boxster.

The Audi ETron features a lithium-ion battery pack and four electric motors, it will also get a new aluminium frame chassis and a lightweight aluminium body, virtually identical to the e-tron concept picture that we see above. Audi state that the ETron has an impressive range of 124 miles and it will only weigh 1600kg.
