Jaguar Cars
Jaguar cars first entered production in 1935. The founder William Lyons and his team had been very active in vehicle design since 1922 with the Swallow Sidecar Company, which designed bodywork for several manufacturers such as Morris, Fiat and Austin, but when he decided to go the whole hog and make cars from the ground up, a new company name was called for. Thus Jaguar cars were unleashed on the world.
Jaguar cars have always had a reputation for speed and elegance. The early XK series set the scene when the XK120 became the world’s fastest production car in 1948. In 1961 the E Type gave Jaguar another push and its classy powerful looks came to epitomise the British Swinging Sixties. Jaguar cars were in demand from royalty and film stars and had a cachet that very few car makers could match..
Next came the mighty V12 saloons of the Seventies, and Jaguar claimed with some justification that the 140-mph-plus XJ12 was the fastest production four-seater in the world. In this decade Jaguar cars consolidated their image of sophisticated motorway-eaters, cementing an affection for them that continues to the present day.
In the present day, the range of Jaguar cars consists of the luxury saloons in the S, X and XJ ranges and the sleek and sporty styling of the XK and XKR models. The XJ6 won the What Cars Luxury Car Award in 2005, and the XJ 2.7 diesel won the Scottish Diesel Car Of The Year Award for the second year on the run. Some things never change and Jaguar excellence seems to be one of them.
