Aston Martin cars are always stunning, whether you are talking about looks, power or comfort. There cannot be many people who have not dreamed of owning one of these astonishing supercars. What is not often appreciated is the depth of history behind one of the automotive worlds most revered names. With over ninety years experience of vehicle manufacturing and motor racing, (the Aston part of the Aston Martin name deriving from early victory in the Aston Hill Climb competition as far back as 1914) Aston Martin cars have never been far from the record books. From breaking five world records in 1921, ten world records in 1922, winning the LeMans Biennial Cup in 1932 and with many more victories to follow, Aston Martin cars were the dominant marque at LeMans until 1959. Today they are experiencing a resurgence with Aston Martin Racing, and finished third in the GT1 class in the 2005 LeMans race.
Both the Astons reviewed here (the DB9, and the mighty V12 Vanquish) feature sub 5.5 seconds to 60 performance which should easily satisfy anyone who still has a pulse. Furthermore, the Vanquish boasts a jaw-dropping 200 mph top speed and somehow still manages to get 28 miles per gallon in the city. But if you can splash out £174,000 on the daddy of all Aston Martin cars, we doubt you’ll be overly concerned about fuel economy.
