SummaryAverage. VW's latest MPV isn't going to win any beauty contests but then the company is famed for no-nonsense people-carriers. Bags of space matched with high prices. |
ReviewIf you need space to ferry your growing family, and price and looks are not an issue, the latest VW Caravelle is the bus for you. This enormous MPV can cope with seven people plus a stack of luggage - a rare feat for any people-carrier. Carrying capacity is much bigger than Renault's Grand Espace but behind the Chrysler Grand Voyager. Sliding rear doors add to the van-like image but they make sense for city parking. The dash layout is very car-like but you need a long arm to reach the floor-mounted handbrake. The 3.2 V6 petrol delivers 233bhp - a new California camper van is now in the line-up.

VW California. Am I alone in moaning about lack of knee room? I'm average build but find knees pressing on steering column even though it's at its highest position. Of course the drivers seat in California doesn't have height adjustment. It's potentially dangerous being unable to easily lift rightleg from accelerator to brake. |

just bought a new Caravelle. Noone told me the details of the Sat Nav. I now know that the disc you get only covers one country and each adfditional disc (also one country) costs an extra £117.50. My BMW has a single disc with 24 countries so to duplicate that VW want to charge an over £2000. |
