SummaryAverage. A big, comfortable saloon and estate from the old school. Well built but dull to drive, and the lack of a premium badge means punishing depreciation. |
ReviewIt's hard not to like the Omega. It's big, rugged and okay at doing lots of different things (if exceptional at nothing). There's lots of space in the big cabin, especially with the voluminous estate. Good standard equipment comes across the board, the solid build quality leading to 'poor man's Mercedes-Benz' comparisons. Yet despite rear-wheel drive the Omega is little fun to drive - vague steering and a sometimes abrasive ride showing its considerable age. Basic 2.2 litre engine is perfectly adequate, 2.6 and 3.2 V6 engines give more performance but drink heavily. 2.2 turbodiesel is loud and lacks urge. Massive depreciation means private buyers should only consider a second-hand or nearly-new Omega.
