SummaryAverage. Despite sleek modern looks the Landcruiser remains throughly old-fashioned under the skin. Incredibly competent off-road but can't match rivals on it. |
ReviewAs manufacturers rush to make their 'sports utility' off roaders ever more car-like, it seems that Toyota is pulling in the opposite direction with the Land Cruiser. It's predictably well built and all versions offer a high level of standard equipment, plus the option of eight seats in the five door versions. The problems are bequeathed by the old-fashioned chassis that gives a poor, lumpy ride and sometimes imprecise roadholding. 4.0 V6 petrol version gives good performance but suffers from catastrophic fuel consumption. 3.0 turbo-diesel option combines reasonable motivation with far better economy. Excellent standard equipment across the board, but prices are high compared to rivals.
