Nissan improves safety on new car
18/03/2008
New car shoppers have been advised that the new Nissan Navara has been improved following earlier concerns over its safety levels.
According to an article for consumer watchdog Which?, the pick-up had previously attained a Euro NCAP one-star rating when it was tested for how the passengers inside would be protected in the event of a crash.
However, it is noted that the star was struck through on the Euro NCAP rating to indicate the vehicle carried a high risk of a potentially fatal injury, although this was attributed to a fault with the airbag.
It is reported that Nissan have now modified the vehicle, improving the airbag software - and that in addition to this the manufacturer will upgrade any of the used cars produced from 2005 onwards in the same way.
Euro NCAP secretary general, Dr Michiel van Ratingen, said: "Nissan has acted responsibly and promptly in response to our findings."
According to DueMotori.com, the modified Nissan Navara has now achieved a three-star rating for adult occupant protection, with the child rating lifted to four stars
