SummaryNot recommended. Enormous old-fashioned Sports Utility Vehicle featuring tough construction and genuine off-road mastery. But crude and slow compared to more modern rivals. |
ReviewLoved by UN peacekeepers, the Patrol is probably best left to the warzones that seem its natural habitat. It's enormously tough and almost unstoppable in the rough, but unrefined on normal roads. Ride quality is poor and handling is stodgy and sometimes vague. The 160bhp turbo-diesel engine tries hard, but it can't motivate so much car more than very slowly. And the Patrol's enormous width makes it a nightmare to guide down narrow country lanes or urban streets. That said, the Patrol is great at towing big loads, has a spacious well-equipped interior and - in short-wheelbase three door form - offers good value as a tough workhorse.
