New car option for green customers

06/05/2008
New car shoppers could soon be able to add hybrid power to their list of optional extras, according to reports.

Auto Express notes this week that a new plug-in system, which can be fitted to any current new or used car on the market, could be used to reduce CO2 emissions by around 39 per cent and increase fuel economy by up to 61 per cent.

It is reported that the hybrid conversion kit, which is being trialled by vehicle testing centre MIRA, may be available as an optional extra to car loans customers with an estimated price tag of £2,000.

The magazine adds that initial tests have been made using a Skoda Fabia and one spokesman has confirmed that things are looking good for the system - dubbed the H4V.

"One manufacturer is already interested in adding the hybrid system to its range." The spokesman told Auto Express.

A recent study from Motorpoint found that three in four car shoppers would be interested in buying a vehicle that car that uses stop-start technology to improve fuel economy.
