Mercedes CL (03 - 06)
 |
Rating
SummaryRecommended. A relaxed uber-Cruiser that offers conservative good looks and continent-crossing high speed ability. Very expensive to buy and run. |
ReviewUnderneath the crisp lines of its stylish coachwork the CL is based on the S Class executive saloon, making for an effortlessly competent dynamic performance. For driver and front seat passenger the cabin offers an abundance of space, although the dashboard and instruments are identical to the S Class, which limits the 'coupeness' of the experience. Rear seat space is adequate and the boot, by the standards of the segment, is enormous. Comfort obviously came as top priority when the chassis was being set-up, the CL offering the sort of wafty high-speed cruising that could seriously damage your licence. The more-than-adequate 500 'base' engine makes the 5.5 V8 and 6.0 V12 options look positively gratuitous.
