SummaryAverage. Full-sized luxury two seater featuring one of the trends of the moment: a folding metal roof, making it both a coupé and a roadster. Transatlantic looks and poor ride keep it a minority taste in the UK. |
ReviewSharing engine and transmission with the LS luxury saloon, the SC coupé offers a similarly wafty driving experience. Or at least, it does on smooth roads. Yet despite a package of revisions just months after the car was launched, Lexus has been unable to cure a disappointingly lumpy ride on rough British tarmac. American retro styling has also failed to click with most UK punters. Plus points include the folding metal roof, which works well and offers snug insulation when in place. Build quality is predictably excellent, as is the level of standard equipment. And the potent, creamy V8 engine gives effortless performance. For £6000 less than the cheapest Mercedes SL, the Lexus is also conspicuously good value.
