SummaryAverage. Truly a motoring icon. Unstoppable off-road, unpleasant on-road, it is about as hard-core as you can get. |
ReviewThe good news is that the Defender is far more refined than it was 20 years ago. It now has suspension from the original Discovery, a reasonably modern diesel engine and even power steering. The bad news is that it is still less refined than any other 4x4, as the basic design goes back to 1948. It is noisy, ponderous and slow until it gets off-road where most modern off-roaders would not see which way it went. It is expensive to buy new, but high resale values mean it is quite cheap in the long term.
