SummaryNot recommended. Unless you just want a rugged vehicle for serious off-road use, the Trooper feels dated. Two strong engines - but both comfort and looks are weak points. |
ReviewFour-wheel drives don't come with much more presence than the Trooper - it looks huge and is very roomy inside. Both the 3.5 petrol and 3.0 turbodiesel models are solid performers too, if a little thirsty. The Isuzu performs best when you get it off road but back on the tarmac, the ride is fidgety and way behind the newer Land Rover Discovery and Jeep Cherokee. It's perfect for country folk who want to tow and aren't that bothered about image. The long-wheelbase seven-seat version is a practical and spacious, 4x4 people-carrier.
