SummaryRecommended. An all-new version of the seminal American 'pony car' with retro styling, strong performance and much-improved handling compared to its agricultural predecessors. Still more likely to appeal for those seeking muscle than finesse. |
ReviewIn spite of its familiar looks (especially to anyone who has seen the film "Bullitt"), the Mustang is all-new, and now shares it's chassis platform with the Jaguar S-Type. The basic engine is a 3.0 litre V6 that manages 200 bhp, but most cars crossing the Atlantic are likely to be equipped with the more powerful motors, including a normally-aspirated 4.6 litre V8 in both 16-valve and 32-valve guises. A 400 bhp supercharged version will be introduced later, powering the top-of-the-range SVT Cobra version. Basic versions make do with an old fashioned 'solid' rear axle, limiting handling finesse, but more expensive V8 powered cars have a full independent rear suspension. All versions are left-hand drive only.
